ELEVEN people were involved in a four-vehicle crash this afternoon (Sunday).
Emergency services were called to the incident at Southfields on the A303 South Petherton at around 3.30pm.
Police say road closures are in place following the "serious collision".
UPDATE: Two treated for serious injuries as police issue witness appeal
Three people were trapped in three different cars on the arrival of fire crews. A Devon and Somerset Fire Services spokesman later confirmed four people trapped.
Firefighters set up equipment to free the victims and to secure the scene safely.
They removed car roofs to get the victims out of the vehicles.
Two people were airlifted to hospital and two were taken to hospital by road ambulance.
The walking wounded were checked out by ambulance staff at the scene.
