FIFTY-TWO seniors took on the Canadian Greensomes tournament at Cricket St Thomas on Wednesday.
With near perfect conditions, the majority of the 26 teams returned better than par scores.
In this event, the players select the ball in play after both partners have played two shots – so they play alternate shots and the format is a stableford scoring system.
Only one point separated the first four pairs, with Pope/Wallace taking top spot and the trophy.
Result: 1. Stuart Pope/George Wallace - 41 points; 2. Ian Housham/Ray Gudge - 40; 3. Maurice Arnold/Bert Robinson - 40.
Twelve members of the match team entertained the Seniors from Weymouth on Friday, hoping to avenge their 6-0 away thrashing.
Having lost the first game, Saints bounced back with three consecutive wins, and took the match 4-2 overall.
Meanwhile, 33 members entered a three-man Texas scramble.
Despite some very creditable scoring, nobody could match Ted Bryden’s team, who returned a score of a gross three under par, for a sub-60 score.
Result: 1. Ted Bryden; Danny Dowell & Mark Coleman - 59.84; 2. Dave Walgrave; Clive Fisk & Mike Mosser - 60.17; 3. Alan Chance; Des Denning & John Wandless - 61.17.
