THE wet weather has reduced the amount of golf played at Windwhistle.

A wet Monday morning saw 38 Seniors attend the first qualifying individual Stableford of the year, played off the blue tees.

This reduced the standard scratch to 37 points as a par.

Despite the weather and difficult greens, four players managed scores of par or better.

In Division 1, a fine round of 41 points by the ever improving Bob Barrow saw him take first prize by a margin of three points along with a reduced handicap to six.

Fine rounds by George Willerton and Barrie Heath saw them finish second and third respectively.

In Division 2, Bryan Frost and Jerry Stephens had good rounds with Andy Beale not far behind in third place.

Results – Division 1: 1 Bob Barrow 41pts, 2 George Willerton 38pts, 3 Barrie Heath 37pts. Division 2: 1 Bryan Frost 39pts, 2 Jerry Stephens 37pts, 3 Andy Beale 34pts.

After heavy rain only 15 holes were available on Wednesday.

With the sun shining at last, 39 golfers entered the three man ‘waltz’ competition, a variation of a bowmaker tournament.

The reduced course meant that 60 points would be a par score.

In the event, it was a tight finish with three points separating the top four positions.

Result – 1 Norman Markby, Alan Chance & John Pearce 63pts; 2 Maurice Arnold, Richard Forster & Ian Fielder 62pts; 3 Phil Hunt, Colin Ireland & Brian Anderson 61pts; 4 Bert Robinson, Alan Davis & Nick Hill 60 pts.
