HAVING suffered a 9-1 defeat at the hands of Mid Somerset earlier in the season; spectators may have been surprised at the confidence of the home side as they lined up for their second match against their mid-table opponents.

Within the first 20 minutes it was evident that this would be quite a different encounter, between the two teams; with the Chard Ladies clearly dominating play.

As the Mid Somerset team had chosen to play with a Kicking Back rather than a Goalkeeper, Chard felt sure of their ability to capitalise on any shots on goal.

The first success came in the sixth minute of play, with a beautiful goal from Sarah McDermott.

Cold conditions had left the pitch solid underfoot, making the ball difficult to control at times. In the second half, goalkeeper Anna Dewick came into her own' with some confident clearances and diving saves, as Mid Somerset began to find their target.

With Mid Somerset eventually securing the equaliser, Chard had to go back on the offensive.

Shortly afterwards a Chard short corner saw Katy Jones set up Captain Lyndsay Blackshaw for the home side's second goal of the match.

Sadly for Chard, they could not maintain their lead until the final whistle and had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
