CHARD Town suffered another postponement yesterday, when the pitch failed a 10am inspection for their match with Cheddar, after more heavy overnight rain, writes Colin Dunford.

Although the Toolstation Western League, through the FA, have now agreed a week's extension to the season (through to May 5), at the time of writing, no new rearrangements of Chard's nine games in 19 days have been made.

No doubt the league are awaiting the outcome of the Easter programme, to see how many more matches fall foul of the weather.

So as things stand, Robins manager Paul Down has to prepare his troops for an away game at Bishops Lydeard on Good Friday, and then a home clash with Almondsbury UWE on Easter Monday (both 3pm kick-offs).

Next Wednesday (April 4, ko 7.45pm), Chard are set to face another home match, against Ashton & Backwell United.

Down enjoyed his side's fine 2-1 home win over Bishops Lydeard last Wednesday, saying: "I am expecting another close affair on Friday, but hopefully we will have a full squad available.

"On Monday, when we face Almondsbury, we will be attempting to complete the 'double' over our opponents.

"After that, with only two days' rest, we meet Ashton & Backwell.

"We will have to deal with injuries and fatigue, with performances difficult to predict."

The manager revealed that goalkeeper Jon Hill has signed dual registration forms (as cover for Chris Weale) with Dorchester.

Striker Alex Stafie, who left Chard to join Westbury United, turned out as a substitute for Dorchester's Southern League side last Saturday.
