CHARD 2nds gained their first win of the season in convincing style on Saturday in the WEPL Bristol and Somerset Division 2nd XI competition against Uphill Castle 2nds.
A fantastic knock of 101 by opener Jake Hayes was the highlight of the Chard innings as he and fellow opener Chris Scott (83) pushed the score along at speed.
Michael Kennedy, coming in at number three, fell just one run short of his 50, while Tom Shire added 21 as Chard 2nds posted an imposing total of 287-4 from their 41 overs.
It was then left to bowler Neil Wyatt to destroy visitors’ batting.
He took superb figures of 7-25 from his 11.3 overs, which included five maidens, as Uphill were dismissed for 116.
Richard Scott claimed the other three wickets including Uphill’s opening batsmen.
It was a much-needed win for Andrew Clancy’s side and he will be hoping for a repeat performance when they are face Clevedon 2nds at home on Saturday (June 4).
