DONYATT Bowls Club hosted Dorchester in the Top Club Championship on Saturday.
Donyatt took an early lead by winning both of the two wood singles through Gerry Morris (21-10) and Jean Jones (19-9) and extended the lead with a win in the mixed pairs from Jill Humphries and John Parsons (25-16).
However, Dorchester fought back to win the mixed triples as Donyatt’s Betty Marner, Bob Chick and Paul Denslow went down 17-18 and the mixed four of John Hill, Ann Rowe,Peter Bromfield and Carole Parsons lost 10-33.
That meant that the points tally was level at eight apiece but Donyatt won on shot difference.
Later Donyatt played Chardstock and again emerged as winners, managing a clean sweep on all four rinks.
Sunday saw a mixed four of Jill Humphries, Carole and John Parsons and Paul Denslow play the next round of the National Championship against Minehead and again Donyatt won a close match, 19-18.
The final action of 2010 at Donyatt will be Saturday’s inaugural Open Triples, sponsored by AJ Wakeley and starting at 11am.
