THE Tour of Britain cycling extravaganza will be heading through Chard and Crewkerne on Friday for the seventh stage of the annual race.

Some of the world’s top cyclists set off from Scunthorpe last Saturday to start their way around the country.

The penultimate day of the race sees the cyclists move off from Hatherleigh in Devon – possibly the smallest village that has ever started a stage on the Tour – all the way to Yeovil Town FC’s Huish Park stadium.

A Tour of Britain spokesman said: “This gruelling stage will be the most testing for the Tour.”

The cyclists will leave Hatherleigh at 10.15am and move to Crediton and Cadbury Hill before sprinting through Chard at around 1.30pm.

They will race on to Crewkerne before heading up East Chinnock Hollow at just before 2pm and then moving to Huish Park.

It is expected that the stage winner will cross the line at around 2.05pm.
