FORTY members of the Senior section entered a fourball better ball competition at Cricket St Thomas on Monday.

The hot weather and dry course assisted the golfers, most of them scoring in excess of 40 stableford points.

Two teams managed a score of eight below par, but the winners with 47 points were Chris Basterfield and John Evans.

Result: 1. Chris Basterfield & John Evans - 47 pts; 2. Martin Leigh & Chris Gingell - 44 pts; 3. Bryan Frost & Richard Forster - 44 pts

Meanwhile, the Saints senior match team travelled to Fosse Way in an attempt to score a double over their opponents.

The first two games were lost, but Peter Spencer-Farr’s pair and David Mugridge with John Twose managed to redeem the situation.

The result depended on the final game which was won by the home side by virtue of a birdie, so Saints lost 2½-3½.

On Wednesday, 45 seniors entered the three-man Texas scramble in searing heat.

Once again, some fine golf was witnessed with many teams breaking the 60 mark.

Bob White led his team home, returning a score just 0.3 shots better than their rivals.

Result: 1. Bob White; Robin Flower & Martin Leigh - 56.7; 2. Roger Stone; Maurice Arnold & Keith Potter - 57.0; 3. Bob Barrow; John Wandless & Ted Bryden - 58.0

Friday saw the final of the Seniors Challenge Cup with 13 players in the Cup and 24 players in the Plate competition.

Outright winner of the Challenge Cup was Barrie Singleton, who finished six points ahead of his nearest rivals.

In the Plate, a three-way tie ensued, John Pearce claiming victory on countback.
