FIREFIGHTERS rushed to a South Petherton pub this morning after reports of a chimney fire.

A fire engine from Martock was sent to a report of a fire shortly after 11.30am at The Brewers Arms in St James Street, South Petherton.

The crew requested a thermal imaging camera which was sent on a fire engine from Ilminster.

On arrival it was confirmed that there was a chimney fire in the bar area of the building and that it had already been evacuated.

Crews got to work using chimney gear to fight the fire.

An aerial ladder platform from Taunton was also called out due to the precarious positioning and difficulty with fighting the fire.

The fire was finally extinguished from the hearth using chimney gear and chimney rods.

A spokesman for The Brewers Arms said that the fire had just been at the top of the chimney and that the fire service had been called as a precaution.

There has been no damage to the pub and business is open as usual.
