PUPILS from Buckland St Mary raised more than £100 for cancer charities with a cake sale stall last week.

Oak Class’s cake sale fundraising effort, which was held in aid of World Cancer Day, took in £115 while raising awareness of the disease.

Rachael Auton, the class teacher, said: “Many of the children knew someone who had suffered from this dreadful disease or had very close family members who have just fought it or are fighting it now.

“This inspired them into action, suggesting a cake stall to raise awareness and money. Their initiative and determination made me very proud – with a truly fantastic outcome of £115.”

Eighteen pupils from Buckland St Mary were also recently involved in the 10th Annual Combe St Nicholas 10k.

On Mother’s Day, the pupils all took part in the shorter 2k children’s race as the Buckland Bolters.
