Flood warnings for Somerset as more rain predicted on Saturday
PARTS of Somerset are on flood alert this afternoon after heavy rain and high winds battered the county overnight and on Friday (December 14).
With more rain expected on Saturday, the Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for properties on the Somerset coast near Porlock Weir.
Engineers from West Somerset Council have visited a section of the coastline behind the Blue Anchor Hotel today where the weather has brought about some coastal erosion. A sliproad has been cordoned off at the site.
Warnings have also been issued in North Somerset and some localised flooding of roads has been reported in Taunton Deane and South Somerset.
At this stage there is no suggestion that the rainfall will bring anything like the disruption which brought much of Somerset to a standstill last month.
