THIS week, year 5 and 6 pupils at Herne View Church of England Primary School in Ilminster had the opportunity to participate in an exciting STEM Roadshow.

The BAE Systems Education Programme Roadshow in partnership with the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy was delivered by a team of actors who visited the school.

Chard & Ilminster News:

The theme of the show, from the depths of the oceans to outer space, examined the engineering challenges that are faced when travelling to inhospitable locations.

Giant inflatable planets and a vast inflatable Sun, which touched the ceiling no less, captivated and inspired the children to begin to put the sheer size of space in context.

The pupils explored some of the innovative solutions to these issues through a series of tasks during the presentation.

Mr Whitfield said: “I have rarely seen so many children so enthralled during a visiting workshop, the discussions prompted by the session have touched on many areas of space and I wouldn’t be surprised if we have future Tim Peake amongst our pupils.”
