POLICE are investigating as a man was found injured in the street in Ilminster last week after an assault.

The incident happened on Wednesday, June 14, and Avon and Somerset Police said a man in his 30s was taken to hospital after sustaining head injuries.

The force now added that he was discharged two days later (June 16).

Avon and Somerset Police are now asking witnesses to come forward with any information.

A spokesperson said: “Police are following up positive lines of enquiry after a man was found injured in Station Road, Ilminster, just before 4am on Wednesday 14 June.

“Officers believe this incident involves people known to one another.

“The man, who is in his thirties, was taken to hospital for treatment to the head and other injuries and discharged on Friday 16 June.

“He has told officers that he was assaulted by a man and enquiries are underway to locate a suspect.

“Anyone who witnessed the assault, has any dashcam footage or any other information, is asked to contact officers by calling 101 and giving the reference 5223139276.

“Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously by calling 0800 555 111, or online."
