A STRETCH of a main road into Ilminster will be closed for 10-and-a-half hours tomorrow to allow urgent repairs to ironworks.

Part of the Old A3037 (Watery Lane/Greenway) will be closed between 7.30am and 6pm on Friday, December 9.

Around 670 metres of road will be shut from its junction with Cricket Lane near Sea and Dowlish Ford.

Ilminster Town Council posted about the closure on its official Facebook page after receiving a temporary traffic regulation notice (TTRN) from Somerset County Council.

A spokesperson said: “Please be aware that we have received a notification of a TTRN (urgent / emergency) road closure at Old A3037, Donyatt CP.

“This will enable Somerset Highways to carry out urgent repairs to ironworks.

“The contractor has indicated that access for emergency services through the site is not permitted on this occasion.”

The Old A3037 is the main route into the southern side of Ilminster.

A diversion route will be in place via the A358 (through Donyatt and Horton Cross) and the B3168 into the north-western side of the town.

Ironworks relates to highways infrastructure such as drains, manholes, stop-tap covers and inspection chamber covers.
