THE name of Ilminster’s new pre-school has been unveiled as the planning permission is approved and work set to begin.

Neroche Primary School was successful in gaining funding from the Education Funding Agency, in partnership with Somerset County Council, to build a new pre-school on the school’s site announced in January 2017.

Planning permission has recently been granted and the school has confirmed building work is due to begin on June 19, ready for opening and the first children arriving in September.

Neroche School has now announced that the new pre-school, for children aged two to four will be named the First Friends Pre-School.

After the Easter holidays, the school will be taking bookings for two and three year olds.

Many three year olds will be able to benefit from the Government’s newly funded 30 hours free childcare for three year olds, which is set to come into force from September 1.

Connel Boyle, Neroche School headteacher, said: “We cannot wait for work to begin so all of the new toys and equipment we have ordered can all go in place in this amazing £400,000 investment for our Ilminster and Village communities.

"Our current Reception Teacher, Mrs Bowditch will be moving to teach in the new Pre-School and lead the unit. Neroche School believes our youngest children need to get the best start in life so we have prioritised our finances to be able to afford the luxury of a qualified teacher in the new First Friends Pre-School.”

Claire Bowditch, early years specialist at Neroche, added: “I cannot wait to teach in our community’s new First Friends Pre-School and leading our team of eight staff for children aged two to five. Supporting our children from age two until they progress through their first year at school when they turn 5 will be a real honour and privilege.”
