COMMUNITY surveys are currently being delivered to every home in Ilminster asking people to say what they think about their town.

The Ilminster Forum – a not-for-profit group which works with a variety of organisations to develop and deliver projects in the town – hopes people will complete the form and send it back in a pre-paid envelope provided.

Ten years ago Ilminster Forum carried out a similar survey and the results were written up into the Ilminster Community Plan.

That document identified the services and facilities in Ilminster that people felt were lacking or needed improving. It also highlighted areas of the town that residents felt could be enhanced.

The Ilminster Community Plan was later used as evidence to persuade many organisations to provide support and helping with funding for numerous projects including the Stop Line Way cycle-path between Ilminster and Chard, a revamped library garden, a community website, a tourism website and various new footpaths.

Ilminster Forum now wants to update the plan and find out what people currently think about the town and how of they use the facilities and services available.

The survey covers areas that impact on everyday life in Ilminster such as transport, work, the town centre, leisure activities, communication and the local environment.

Forum chairman, Carol Goodall, said: “We really value everyone’s input into this new community plan. The more people that complete this form, the stronger evidence we have to persuade councils, funders and other organisations to support the improvements that residents want to see.”

The survey can also be completed on-line – go to the community plan page of www.ilminsterweb.co.uk for a link and to find out more information.

The results of the survey will identify the issues important to Ilminster people and will be used to put together an action plan of projects.

Anyone that does not receive a survey through their door can pick-up a copy from the Ilminster Community Office in North Street or by phoning 01460-220423.
