AN eagle-eyed police officer from Crewkerne is one of three from Avon and Somerset who have been praised for their off-duty vigilance.
A 32-year-old man, who has committed a number of incidents and was being sought by police, was arrested in Crewkerne, after he was spotted by the off-duty police officer.
The officer noticed that the suspect had a weapon and called colleagues who attended and detained the man.
He has since appeared in court, charged with possession of an offensive weapon and being in possession of a class A drug.
Two other off-duty officers had similar success in Frome and Shepton Mallet.
Chief Constable Nick Gargan said: “At a time when the service is under close scrutiny, it is worth remembering the everyday heroics – on and off duty – that are the daily business of a police force.
“I am extremely proud of these officers. They are typical of the men and women who police this area with courage and integrity.”
