CHARD'S very own Paul Roberts has won the Commonwealth Silver Light-Flyweight championship belt.

Fighting on Friday night at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow, Roberts defeated his opponent Chris Liddell via TKO.

It was clear early on that Paul was the quicker boxer as he landed some heavy blows and avoided the follow up.

In the first round he cut open his opponent but as was seen, Liddell was able to handle a lot of pressure and damage.

It took a quick right hook to stagger him as the fight went on and Paul made the most of the opportunity forcing a stoppage win.

After the fight, Paul said: "Well what a night, I managed to pull of a great performance against a true warrior and a tough man.

"I feel over the moon with all the support im getting from this it really does mean a lot. I'd like to thank the 15 people that travelled all the way to Glasgow to come and support me which made it feel like a little home from home and helped me feel so comfortable being away.

"Also all the messages of support and the kind words and recognition of my hard work I really do appreciate it and finally thanks to my team of great people around me MC Pro Boxing, and my partner Dessy Jones for putting up with the late nights, early mornings, angry mood swings all through my training camps lets keep working hard to continue this journey like always."

Paul will now be looking to further his boxing career again with another fight lined up in the near future.
