CHARD Town Council has agreed to invest an estimated £4,000 into installing a 'much-needed' new swing at a local park.

The new play equipment in Halcombe Park will be paid for from a reserve, which is set aside in recent years to replace faulty equipment and upgrade local play parks.

A spokesperson for the town council said: "The swing will be installed in the play area of the park but will be of a type that can be removed if the lease on the land is not renewed at any time in the future.

It has also been announced that plans to install a new local BMX track are well under way, with the new facility expected to be open within the next 12 months.

The money for this will be taken from section 106 collections (money provided from local house builders).

A spokesperson for Chard Town Council added: "Operations Manager, Kevin Dyer is looking into the best way to get the equipment needed to build the track most easily and we hope the new facility will be open within the next 12 months."
