STAFF at a primary school in Chard said they were “overwhelmed” by the generosity of their community after raising £702 in aid of a church.

Manor Court Primary School held a non-uniform day yesterday (Friday, January 12) to raise funds for St Mary’s Church.

The money raised will help with the cost of replacing the church's recently damaged stained-glass windows.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our school community who have donated £702 (during our non-school uniform day) today to help with the cost of replacing the damaged windows at St Mary’s Church.”

The spokesperson previously said: “St Mary’s community and the whole community of Manor Court Community Primary School (children, parents, and staff) have an exceptionally strong friendship and we wanted to help.

“Our school ethos is based on caring for each other and we encourage this care to go out through the school gates into Chard as much as we can.”
