WINSHAM Primary School, part of The Redstart Learning Partnership has been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in its recent report.

Following an inspection at the start of November, Winsham Primary, Chard, has received a ‘Good’ grade in all areas, including personal development, leadership and management, the quality of education, and early years provision.

The inspection was a positive process and the inspectors recognised the tremendous hard work that everyone has put in since joining the Redstart Learning Partnership, which has supported the school in making significant progress from its last inspection in 2017 when it was rated ‘inadequate’.

Ofsted reported positively in all areas. Some highlights from the report are as follows: “Pupils enjoy learning at this happy and inclusive school.

“The school has high expectations of pupils’ achievement.

“The school has high expectations of pupils’ conduct. Staff apply these expectations consistently and pupils live up to them. As a result, classrooms are calm, positive places of learning.

“Leaders have brought stability and ambition to the school. They ensure coherence and consistency in the school’s expectations and in the quality of education that pupils receive.”

The inspection team reported positively regarding SEND provision, stating that “staff caters well for pupils’ needs, including those of the very youngest children in the preschool.

“The school makes suitable adaptations for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) so they follow the curriculum successfully.”

Ofsted acknowledged that the school’s recent focus on its curriculum had allowed for it to be ‘…an ambitious curriculum, which gives pupils the knowledge and skills they need for future success’ and has shared with the school what they need to do next in order to embed, refine and develop this.

Mrs. Johns, head of school, said: “I am incredibly proud of the team at Winsham Primary. The report reflects the hard work and team effort that has gone into ensuring that the school improved in all areas.

“I would like to thank the staff at the school, Mrs. Caroline Lancey, (Associate Head of Accelerated Learning), our CEO, Mrs.

Suzanne Flack, and our colleagues within the Redstart Learning Partnership, all of whom have contributed to bringing the school to the point at which it now is.

“We are also grateful to all of our families and to the wider village for their ongoing support and engagement.

“My biggest thanks must go to the children, who are at the heart of everything we do here at Winsham.

“I am very proud of each and every one of them; they shone throughout the entire inspection, speaking with confidence and enthusiasm about all of their learning, demonstrating and upholding our school’s values.”

Suzanne Flack, CEO of The Redstart Learning Partnership, said: “I am delighted for the pupils, staff, and parents that Ofsted recognises that Winsham Primary School is such a great place in which to learn.
