STAFF and students at Holyrood Academy are “delighted” their school has won a prestigious award recognising their commitment to the arts.

The school in Chard announced they won the Gold Artsmark Award, which is a “testament to the creativity and talent” of their students.

Jenny Lowe, head of Creative Arts, said: “We are utterly thrilled to achieve our Gold ArtsMark Award and this is testament to the sheer commitment and passion towards the arts that we have at Holyrood.

“Over the past two years, our Creative Arts Team has worked incredibly hard to ensure the very best education and opportunities in all areas of creativity, and this has certainly been embraced by our students.

“Our ArtsMark journey has enabled us to develop our provision here including an enhanced range of offer such as GCSE Dance, Arts Mark Qualifications, and LAMDA Acting examinations.

“We have also focused on careers in the creative industries organising trips to top universities, theatres, galleries and welcoming visiting professional performers - all of which has led to many of our students' securing places at Drama Schools and Universities to further study areas in the Creative Arts.

“We have enjoyed developing partnerships with our primary feeder schools, and our local community and are excited to be part of The Octagon Theatres Education Outreach programme this year.

“This award really goes to show that the arts are valued and thriving at Holyrood Academy - and we are certainly proud of it.”
