A YOUTH club has launched a series of activities and provisions after receiving positive feedback from parents and children.

The Tatworth Youth Club launched its Youth Zone last month offering a play day to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The event was a success and the club decided to provide more events and activities over the summer.

Then the Youth Zone began last month on February 20 and will run until Easter 2023.

On April 3, the club will run provisions for the younger children, starting with a launch “fun day” before the regular sessions start after the half term.

From Sep 2023 to March 2024 more Youth Zone sessions will be held.

The regular sessions take place at the memorial hall, 7pm to 9pm for the youth zone, and 6.30pm-8.30pm for fun time. The “launch/fun day/special events will take place on the playing fields nearby.

Chard & Ilminster News:

A spokesperson said: “We launched our Youth Zone provision for children in Year 6 + on February 20.

“We had initially held a play day at the playing fields in Tatworth for the Queen’s Jubilee last year which was a great success.

“As this event went so well and we had such positive feedback from parents and children, the local parish council asked us to return for two more fun days in the summer.

“These events included things such as water fights, splashboards, hoverboards & scooters, face paints, bubbles, circus skills, football, archery, ices, snacks, bouncy castle, etc.

“As these two events were also such a success with huge numbers attending, the council approached us about holding a regular provision at the memorial hall.

Chard & Ilminster News:

“Therefore, from March 20 – Easter we are running our Youth Zone provision for Year 6+ where we have activities such as football, hockey, hoverboards, dodgeball, music, Wii, Xbox, karaoke, henna, tie-dye, arts and crafts, choc fountain, pancake making, issue-based activities such as mental health, sexual health awareness/education, no smoking day awareness and lots more.

“During this time, we will also have recruited some of our young people who attend the Youth Zone provision to volunteer and help to run our ‘Fun Time’ sessions to help build their CVs, and personal skills and contribute to their community.

“From Easter-Summer we will be running our Fun Time provision for 6-11-year-olds, where we will have the same activities but with some more age-appropriate such as hair braiding, sand jars, slime making, arts & crafts, games, parachutes, and lots more.

“We also have a snack bar at both these provisions where we serve hot food, drinks, snacks, fruit, and ices.

“Our Youth Zone provision will then return after the summer.

“All of these events/services are supported by and funded by Tatworth & Forton Parish Council.”
