CHARD’S landmark boulder received a festive makeover over the Christmas period in the form of a colourful crochet.

A group of five friends led by Victoria Hilton-Barratt decided to make the knitted decoration in memory of her nan, Hazel Mico, who passed away at the start of December.

The boulder’s new hat has delighted many residents in the town, and Victoria said she was delighted that the crochet, which she started to make at her nan’s house, had been well received.

She said: “I’m so pleased it’s made people smile.

“I held a crochet get together at my house with a group of friends and in November we thought it would be a lovely idea.

“We started it but unfortunately my nan became very ill and with spending a lot of time going back and forth to Musgrove, we didn’t get chance to work on it and it fell by the wayside as I, along with my family, spent as much time as possible with my dying nan.

“Sadly, my nan passed away on December 1 with all her family at her side. As she was the one who taught me to crochet I felt I needed to get it finished and up in time for Christmas as a tribute to her.

“She loved to crochet and taught my mum and aunties along with many others. I feel it’s a fitting Christmas present for her and hope it makes people smile.”
