HOLYROOD Academy students in Chard have been celebrating fantastic results in their GCSEs.

Over 60% of students achieved the Government’s gold standard of A*-C in English and Maths. Sixty-eight per cent of all grades were awarded at A*-C with 16% being at the highest grades, A* and A. All these figures are a significant improvement on the previous year.

Principal Martin Brook said: “Days like today are what it is all about; staff and students celebrating their successes.

“These students have been an absolute credit to the Academy as they have moved up through the years, so I am delighted today to be celebrating their achievements.

“They deserve every bit of credit going but I would also like to praise and thank the staff for what has been a great team effort.

“We have made a number of changes this year, which have been quite challenging, but they have worked so hard to make things work for the students and these results clearly show that Holyrood is making huge strides toward our goal of becoming a centre of educational excellence.

“I am now confident that because of these results we will have a record number of students moving up in to our sixth form this year, where I have no doubt they will continue to excel. Well done everyone.”

Notable successes included Lauren Winch with nine A* and one As; Emma Harris with eight A* and three As; Niamh Rodgers with seven A* and five As; James Woodcroft with seven A* and four As; Leilah Salter with seven A* and two As; Lorena Hall with four A* and seven As; and Beth Cosgrove with ten A*s.
