Tatworth Mad Hatters' Tea Party raises £1,500 for Breast Cancer Campaign

The fete was held at the Tatworth Playing Fields on Sunday and there was a whole host of different stalls, attractions and displays to enjoy.

There was also plenty of live music on throughout the day, while the Chard Goldstar Majorettes also performed.

The party was hosted by the Mad Hatter herself, Jill White, and with the backing of her many friends from the Chard-based Ribbon Cancer Support, Awareness and Fundraising group she put on an amazing day of fundraising.

Breast cancer survivor Jill said: “It was an amazing team effort and everyone worked so hard during the run-up to it and during it.

“We have raised loads of money and I’m sure everyone involved must be really tired come the end, but it was worth it and I’m privileged to call them my friends.

“I am proud of what we have achieved since beginning the Ribbon group in January, but I feel we can grow and get stronger.”

Teresa Gay, of Ribbon, added: “Everyone has been so generous – it was a great day.

“Big thanks to DJ Dan and all the singers, bands and everyone else who gave their time free of charge to be with us. We all appreciate your support.”

It was the second party following on from last year’s successful first-ever event and held in memory of Angie Gerrard, of Chard, who died of cancer on June 6 last year.

The funds raised on the day were boosted by £322 which was taken from a school reunion of Angie’s old classmates held over the weekend.

The Ribbon group has developed following on from last year’s successful calendar project, which raised more than £10,000 for cancer-related charities.

One of the highlights of the Tea Party afternoon was the keenly-contested Men v Ladies Rounders Match for the Angie Gerrard Cup and – much to the annoyance of Jill – it was the men who triumphed!

But it was Mad Hatter and Ribbon, who were the real winners on the day, having raised so much money for such an important and worthwhile cause.
