HER Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Crewkerne this morning as part of their Diamond Jubilee tour.

The streets were packed with people waving Union Flags and cheering on her arrival just after 11am and the town centre was a colourful scene, with bunting and banners on display.

The Royal Standard also flew over the town hall for the 20 minutes of Her Majesty’s visit – a unique moment in Crewkerne’s history.

Impressed with the turnout and support from Crewkerne and surrounding villages Mayor Cllr Neil Sturtivant said: “It shows the strength of feeling the town has for the Queen – the town looked wonderful with the flags and bunting.

“To get the Royal Standard on the town hall was very special and the roar when the second outriders came in was deafening. Hopefully the children who were here today will remember it vividly for the rest of their lives.

“Huge thanks also have to go out to Annette and Sue from the town council – it is so difficult to co-ordinate something like this in such a short time frame and they worked very hard.”
