PEOPLE living in cold homes or struggling with heating bills in South Somerset are invited to attend four free events to get help and support.

Advice and practical help will be provided as part of the Warm Homes Keep You Well project.

People will be able to obtain advice on subjects such as applying for benefits and grants to make homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

They may also be eligible for a free home energy check and draught proofing or insulation.

Cllr Christine Lawrence, Somerset County Council’s communities spokesman, said: “Having a warm and dry home is vitally important, especially for older people, families with young children and people with disabilities.

“Somerset County Council’s successful bid for a £190,000 grant from the Government’s Warm Homes, Healthy Lives fund was made in partnership with the five district councils, the NHS and more than a dozen voluntary and community organisations. It is great to have so many organisations working together to address this important issue and I hope plenty of people make the most of these events that could keep them warm, save them money and, most importantly, keep them in good health.”

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, Ridgeway Care and Repair and housing experts from South Somerset District Council will attending the events, organised by the Community Council for Somerset.

The events include one at Ilminster on March 2 with the others at West Camel on February 29, Wincanton on April 2 and Tintinhull on April 3.

The Ilminster event takes place from 10am to 1pm at the Glade Centre in Frog Lane. Further advice is available from 0845-345-9133.
