RIDERS from Somerset and Devon Pony Club were among the first in the world to be filmed show jumping in 3D.

Sky Sports offered young riders who were competing at the Horse of the Year Show Pony Club Mounted Games the opportunity to be filmed competing and watch their performance back in 3D.

The experience coincided with Sky 3D's first ever broadcast from the Horse of the Year Show last weekend.

And the spectacle was certainly popular among those taking part.

Bella Capel, from Somerset and Devon Pony Club, said: “Watching our team back in 3D was brilliant. It looks so real and showed us totally different aspects of watching riding on TV.

“It was like the ponies were actually in the room with us! Wow!”

John Cassy, Director of Sky 3D, said: “Horse of the Year show in 3D will give audiences a totally fresh perspective on the art of show jumping.

"It will give viewers a greater sense of the incredible skill and control that riders need to win this event than ever before.”

Horse of the Year Show started in 1949 and is now held at Birmingham's NEC Arena.

The event finale was aired live on the Sky 3D channel on October 8 at 8.30pm and October 9 at 8pm.
