IT may have made Christmas card scenes a reality but this week’s heavy snowfalls have brought chaos to the roads in and around Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne.

The area became covered in several inches of snow within the space of only a few hours on Monday morning – just as most people were setting off to work or on Christmas shopping trips.

Main roads like the A303, A30 and A358 became hazardous and the town centres of Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne were icy for pedestrians.

But the snow also brought joy to thousands of schoolchildren starting their Christmas holidays as the area became a winter wonderland.

Many News readers have sent in photos of the snow – more will appear in next week's edition with the cold weather set to continue for several more days.

Send us your photos to newsdesk@chardandilminsternews.co.uk along with all the relevant information.

THIS week's News is out now with pictures of the snow around Chard and Ilminster and four pages of photos of Christmas productions, fairs and concerts at local schools.
