Vicar's wife plans skydive for National Deaf Children's Society

FREEFALLING 5,000ft at 120mph may not be everybody’s idea of a fun Saturday afternoon - but that is what the wife of Ilminster vicar, Rev Alastair Wallace, will be doing this weekend!

Judy Wallace (pictured) will be taking part in a skydive to help raise more than £1,000 for the National Deaf Children’s Society.

She said that their daughter, Ruth, needed help with hearing problems and now their grandson had glue ear – a condition where the middle of the ear fills with glue-like fluid instead of air.

“I’ve seen the effect these problems have on a child and am so grateful for the support given to them, their families and teachers,” said Judy.

Judy will be joined on the skydive by Ruth, who works for the NDCS. Ninety per cent deaf children are born to parents with little or no experience of deafness or knowledge of how to communicate with a deaf person, so NDCS provides emotional and practical support for their families, parents and carers.

Anyone wanting to sponsor Judy can do so online at www.justgiving.com/JudyWallace or through the Minster in Ilminster.

Her husband, Rev Wallace, said: “I think it's brilliant she wants to do this. NDCS deserves all the support it can get.”
