A CHARD man who became a celebrity on BBC Radio when he was looking for love has finally met his match.

Gareth Smith, 26, a former Holyrood School pupil, found fame in 2006 when he won the One Night with Laura competition on the Scott Mills show on BBC Radio One.

Gareth, who now lives in America, beat off thousands of competitors to win the title. Unfortunately the romance with show producer Laura Sayers was short lived and didn’t go beyond the first date in Disneyland Paris.

But the former Air Control Solutions employee has now found love in Tennessee and is due to marry in September.

He met his American bride-to-be Meghan Campbell-Smith in New Zealand while travelling two years ago and moved out to America to live with her about a year ago.

Gareth was mentioned once again on the Scott Mills show yesterday morning (August 9) as his sister Hayley texted in to the station’s Dear Scott feature.

Hayley, 22, asked Scott if he wanted to come along to the wedding for a Tennessee-style ho-down. The News has sent a message to the show this morning campaigning for him to fly out.

Hayley, said: “We’re hopeful Scott is going to come – we’re going to send him out an invitation.”

Scott didn’t rule out attending and asked on air to be sent more details of the wedding. While Gareth is currently unaware of the attention he is getting back home Hayley is sure he would be happy to see Scott again.

Hayley added: “Gareth got on very well with him when he was on the show.”
