POLICE across South Somerset are investigating a spate of attempted overnight van break ins.

A spokesperson for South Somerset Neighbourhood Policing team said the offenders were looking to steal "tools and other materials".

They are advising van owners to take measures to avoid being targeted.

The spokesperson said: "Officers have been made aware of a recent spate of attempted overnight van break ins, all over the South Somerset area, looking to take tools and other materials.

"We would like to advise owners of vans to remove their tools when leaving their vehicles overnight and making sure every effort is made to keep their vehicle secure.

"Also, please ensure all tools are marked with either initials or postcodes that can be identifiable if they are taken.

"If anyone see or hears anything suspicious either on your own vehicle or neighbour's vehicle, or have previously witnessed anything relevant, then please report this on 999 (if happening at the time) or 101 (if reporting after the incident).

"Officers will be providing proactive patrols in these areas."
