POLICE are warning of a spate of thefts of Ford cars in an area of Somerset.

In a social media post, a South Somerset Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson said a number Ford Fiestas and Ford Eco Sports have been stolen in East Somerset over the past four months.

The post adds: "These vehicles have been stolen overnight, without keys and generally between Wednesday to Friday.

"There has been a national increase in thefts of Ford Fiestas as Ford are no longer making them.

"All the stolen vehicles are less than 10 years old."

The post adds: "Thieves are possibly breaking the stolen vehicles for parts.

"There is a possibility that the offenders are using a key fob of some sort to unlock the boot and enter through there and start the engine."

Police are advising owners to be vigilant and to call 999 if they see anything suspicious.
