NEW plans have been put forward to South Somerset District Council for a housing development to be built at the rear of the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster.

Applicant Stuart Shepherd has applied for permission to build five homes along with associated car parking and garaging at the back of the historic hotel in Station Road.

A previous application failed to gain the support Ilminster Town Council and South Somerset District Council, and it was shelved to allow architects Boon Brown to go back to the drawing board.

Now they have come up with a new layout and are hoping that this time they will win the backing of the local authorities.

A spokesman for the applicants said: "The scheme has been designed to have the appearance of a grouping of agricultural buildings."
