PERFORMANCE information for tests sat by ten-year-olds have shown some fine achievements among schools in the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area.

The Key Stage 2 performance tables released last week by the Government show the percentage of Year 6 pupils who gained the benchmark Level 4 in tests in English, Maths and Science. Attendance information is also included.

Neroche Primary School at Broadway registered better results in all three subjects compared to last year's figures including 100 per cent pass marks in English and Science.

South Petherton Junior School, who were last year ranked in the top 100 schools nationally for the way it raises achievement levels between Key Stages 1 and 2 in the so-called value added' measure, once again fared well in the results.

Hundred per cent marks were gained in English and Science and were among the top schools in Somerset for the value added' measure.

The 14 pupils who sat the Key Stage 2 tests at Hambridge Primary School received 100 per cent marks in Maths and Science. Hambridge, who last year did not have enough pupils to qualify for their results to be recorded in the performance indicators, were just one of five schools across Somerset to have got top marks in Maths.

The average score-per-pupil went up at Avishayes and Redstart schools in Chard, while Manor Court saw its mark go down by just the smallest of margins.

Swanmead Community School in Ilminster improved in English and Science and saw their average point score go up, while Tatworth Primary School notched a 100 per cent success rate in Science.

Maiden Beech School in Crewkerne posted results above county and national averages in all three subjects.

Over the border in Devon, All Saints School saw an improvement in its English result, while at Chardstock pupils gained a 100 per cent pass mark in Science and an increase in its overall English score.
