A TASTE of the future travelled back to visit a South Somerset care home as one of the more unorthodox ‘make a wish’ schemes people will see this year.

Two robots visited Claire Mellish, a resident at Burnworthy House in South Petherton, recently for the care home’s latest contribution to Somerset Care’s Special Wish programme.

The event followed Barbara White’s dream come true when she took a turn as a radio DJ for a day at the age of 84.

Earlier in the year, founder of the Ilminster Lions, Bill Ambrose, also had his wish granted when he got to ride in a motorbike sidecar for one last time.

Jaine Thorne, activities co-ordinator, said: “Making wishes come true is something we are good at here, and our latest contribution to the Special Wish programme set us quite a challenge.

“Granting one of our resident’s wish of meeting a robot seemed a bit of an impossible task, but no sooner had she mentioned it to her key worker, Hannah Clark, than the wheels were set in motion.

“Her wish was granted when Pepper and Marvin paid her a special visit. Claire was over the moon as she spent time getting to know them and she didn’t stop smiling from start to finish.”
