SOUTH Somerset is the ideal place to visit - that's if three new videos showcasing the area are anything to go by.
South Somerset District Council (SSDC) has created a series of videos reflecting varying activities for different types of visitors and tourists.
Discover Heritage, Fun for Families and Wake up to Nature each celebrate landscapes and leisure pursuits.
The council is letting businesses use them to help promote on social media and websites.
Government funding to support business resilience after flooding in 2013/14 was used to commission the films in a bid to bring more visitors to the area.
It is also part of an ongoing business support scheme from SSDC.
Councillor Clare Aparicio Paul, portfolio holder for Tourism at South Somerset District Council, said: “It is well known that an increasing amount of business is done online, particularly in leisure and tourism.
"It is essential that websites are at the top of internet searches and embedded material such as videos and social media links greatly assist this.
"Individual businesses often do not have the resources to develop promotional material to this standard so we organised these state-of-the-art professional commercials for their use.
“Additionally, there are not funds for major advertising campaigns, however this gives an opportunity for creative business owners to collaborate with each other and share the footage on social media.
"This is how we can help to ensure South Somerset has its rightful place as a renowned visitor destination.”
Residents will be able to recognise many local destinations including Montacute House, East Lambrook, Manor Gardens, South Petherton Folk Festival and the River Parrett at Langport amongst others.
Peter Roberts, who owns Kitchen at the Wharf café in Langport, said: “South Somerset is full of outstanding venues and attractions and deserves a much higher profile.
"The landscapes and destinations in these videos have really captured the quality of our visitor offer and we are looking forward to using them and spreading the word about our area.
"Within hours of posting on social there were thousands of views and shares. Local people are clearly proud of where they live.”
