MORE than 40 Holyrood pupils have been declared among the country’s best at maths following a recent national challenge.
Year 9 and 10 pupils took part in the UK Intermediate Maths Challenge on February 2 and were given their results this week.
Pupils answered 25 multiple choice questions in one hour. The top 40 per cent of students nationally received a gold, silver or bronze certificate in the ratio 1:2:3.
Six Holyrood students were rewarded with Gold, 12 with Silver and 25 Bronze awards. The school’s top five brainiacs also qualified for the next stage of the competition – Abby Pridden, Storm Lamb, Hannah Eke, Lorna Warren and Orrin Hobbs. Abby and Lorna were awarded ‘Best In Year’ for Year 10 and Year 9 respectively, with Lorna also receiving the impressive Best In School certificate.
Dave MacDonald of Holyrood said: “Well done to all of you who took part and good luck to the five mathematicians going on to the next stage of competition.”
