TWO men have been arrested after leading police on an early-morning high-speed chase from Wellington to Burnham-on-Sea.
The police helicopter and a fleet of squad cars were drafted in to chase the two suspects, who fled after officers tried to pull them over in Wellington.
The men were chased for 40 miles by a police car, and later a police helicopter, along the M5, and then through Burnham-On-Sea, before they were finally stopped in Berrow.
A police spokesman said: "Police attempted to stop the vehicle at 1.30am in the Wellington area but the driver failed to stop.
"The vehicle left the M5 at Burnham and was followed to Berrow where the two men were stopped and arrested.
"One man was a 31-year-old from Lincolnshire, and he was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen, and taking a vehicle without consent, while the other was a 33-year-old from Hampshire, who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving."
The two men have been released on bail pending further investigation.
