Chard Carnival Committee chairman Andy Chant said: “It was a fantastic day. The sun came out at around 11.30am as we were giving out the cups.”

Mr Chant thanked the team of marshals – led by Neil Cline with help from Chard Rotary Club – who ensured the parade went smoothly.

“The procession was led by Chard Fire Brigade and once they got to the middle of the town they were greeted by a very large and appreciative crowd.”

Mr Chant congratulated all the prize winners, but said that everyone who took part in the Carnival was “a winner.”

“The youngsters are the future of Carnival and without them we won’t have a Carnival in years to come,” he said. “That is why the Children’s Carnival is so important to us.”
