THE letter from Danice Jackson published on 25 March 2015 contains incorrect information about the land known as Britten’s Field.
Ms Jackson says “…Freddie Britten gifted an open space recreational area for the benefit of the people of Ilminster.”
That is not true.
The land was purchased by Ilminster Town Council in 1989 from Somerset County Council for the sum of £47,500 and planning permission obtained for change of use from agricultural land to recreation, leisure and open spaces. The council minutes record that the field was named after Mr Britten, who had farmed the land for many years, following a proposal by Councillor Hodges.
The Town Council has received a Freedom of Information request from Ms Jackson and will be responding direct to her. In accordance with best practice, all Freedom of Information requests and the responses can be seen on the Town Council website www.ilminster.gov.uk/aboutilminster/policies/freedom-ofinformation-requests
