I am writing in response to Mr. Kinder's comments that appeared in the C&I last week. He is clearly in 'election mode' and has failed to declare that his mischief making comments have been prompted by his intention to stand as the UKIP candidate in the upcoming elections.

Firstly he needs to get his facts right. There was no election in 2012, there was however one in 2011, when I stood successfully for the third time as a District councillor, and another in 2013, when I stood against Mr. Kinder to become County councillor for Ilminster.

I presume that as pot holes are a county issue that this is what he is referring to, and although a valid concern, their maintenance is not an issue that has relevance for this particular election. I have looked at my literature for both election campaigns and can see no mention at all of the pot holes to which he refers, or any promises he says I made in that respect.

In addition to this, he will know full well that the number of repairs to pot holes across the county in the last couple of years has been greater than at any other time.

I would suggest that if Mr. Kinder and the many others he refers to are so concerned about pot holes then I am left wondering why they have not alerted me to this in order to enable me to actually do something.

Sadly, many of those who will choose to put themselves forward for election this year will have shown little or no interest in the affairs of the communities they seek to represent, until now.
