AS an ardent panto fan, and a Combe St Nicholas resident, I was disappointed not to be able to see this year’s performance of Aladdin by CATS.

I had noticed several press reports of heckling by rival group TAPS and thought little of it until I heard it mentioned on BBC Radio 4 as a news item. Someone is clearly out to make much of this.

I understand revenge jeering is not planned during TAPS’ own upcoming performance of Jack and the Beanstalk.

My spies tell me their unpleasant behaviour was brought about by several disgruntled former members of CATS.

Apparently, under normal circumstances, local theatre groups provide support by attending each others’ performances.

But in response to TAPS’ heckling word has it that this year a boycott will be in force.

It may have much greater effect if they find they are playing to an empty house than any newsworthy heckling might have done.
