"Lane 1 and the hard shoulder will remain closed overnight while emergency resurfacing takes place.
"Delays of up to 60 minutes still remain."
The road has been closed all day with diversions along the A38.
One lane of the motorway was re-opened at around 3pm.
THE Highways Agency says delays now stand at around 30 minutes.

I live in Creech and heard a almighty bang at 3.00 a.m, and i wondered if it was an accident on the motorway. Hope both drivers are ok.
ONE of the lorries caught up in the crash belongs to Royal Mail.
A spokesman said: "We are co-operating fully with local police regarding the accident involving one of our vehicles which happened on the M5 earlier this morning."
It is not yet known whether the lorry was carrying mail or where it was going.
AVON and Somerset Police has just released the following statement:
Two articulated lorries were in collision between junctions 24 at Bridgwater and 25 at Taunton on the southbound carriageway at just before 3am.
The driver of one of the lorries, who is in his fifties, has been taken to Musgove Park Hospital. He has serious arm injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Ch Insp Rhys Hughes said: “One of the lorries tipped over onto its side during the collision blocking all three lanes.
“While work to recover the vehicle is due to get under way shortly we’re unable to give a time estimate of how long this will take and the motorway will remain closed for some time.
“I appreciate the closure will have caused problems for commuters this morning and I thank the public for their continued patience while we deal with this incident.”
Diversions remain in place from junction 24 and we continue to advise motorists to seek alternative routes and avoid the area wherever possible.
POLICE say work is about to start to clear the overturned lorry on the M5 and officers have thanked motorists for their patience.

THE Highways Agency say they are working alongside the police and other emergency services to reopen the road as soon as possible and to keep traffic flowing in the meantime.
Traffic is being diverted between the two junctions via the A38, which runs alongside the motorway.
The Highways Agency say delays of 15 minutes over normal journey times are being reported, but add that these are expected to grow as the morning peak period gets underway.
A spokesman said: "Drivers should check the latest conditions before setting out on a journey, and should seek to avoid this section of the M5 if possible."

THE driver of the overturned lorry suffered a fractured leg and was drifting in and out of consciousness, South Western Ambulance Service said.
The man was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton while the driver of the Royal Mail lorry, believed to be female, only suffered minor injuries but was shaken up.
She was taken to Weston General Hospital.
CURRENTLY the traffic scene in Bridgwater is much the same as it is every morning, with the usual queuing traffic down Taunton Road and at the Penel Orlieu intersection.
The route to Bridgwater from Taunton through North Petherton doesn’t appear to be too busy but more and more traffic will begin using that route due to the accident on the M5.

A DEVON and Somerset Fire Service spokesman said: "This incident was caused by one artic lorry breaking down on the southbound carriageway hardshoulder, which was then hit by a second artic lorry, which then turned onto its side."
HERE is a photo of the scene, posted on Twitter by BBC Somerset earlier.
THE northbound carriageway is open for motorists heading towards Bristol and the Midlands.
TRAFFIC is currently being diverted along the A38 through North Petherton and Bathpool.
Emergency services say they expect to re-open the motorway at 3pm.
HERE is a map of where the incident happened.
MAYHEM rush-hour traffic is predicted this morning (July 16) after a collision between two lorries on the M5 southbound between Bridgwater and Taunton overnight closes the motorway.
The incident happened around one mile from the junction 25 exit for Taunton and saw both lorries spill their loads over the carriageway and left one of the vehicles on its side.
One of the drivers had to be cut from his cabin and was taken to hospital as emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 3am.
