THIRTY pupils at Maiden Beech Academy in Crewkerne have been part of a record-breaking musical challenge.
The youngsters travelled to the Royal Albert Hall in London last week to take part in a Guinness world record attempt as part of the largest ocarina ensemble in the world.
The ocarina is a small wind instrument with four to ten finger holes, and 2013 is a special year of anniversaries for the instrument as it marks 50 years since John Taylor invented the English four-hole Ocarina.
The record was smashed with 3,081 people going into the record books, and the attempt was part of the annual Barnardo’s Young Supporters’ Concert – an evening of music from a massed choir of 1,200 schoolchildren from schools across England, Wales and Gibraltar, with proceeds from the event going to children's charity Barnardo’s.
