THE Holyrood Year 7 boys rugby squad produced an outstanding performance on Tuesday, December 5 to beat Huish Episcopi Academy 25-15 and be crowned South Somerset champions.

An enthusiastic crowd of more than 100 came to Chard RFC to watch the match under floodlights, and were treated to some outstanding rugby displayed by all the youngsters.

Holyrood played an expansive and fast-paced game which the opposition struggled to live with.

Harvi Gardiner was named man of the match for his hat-trick of tries and all-action performance, with the other two tries being scored by the outstanding Will Lees.

Holyrood Academy head of rugby Simon Jenkins said: “This group has been a pleasure to coach since they arrived at Holyrood in September.

“They have continued to get better and better each week.

“Any one of the 18 players who featured on the night could have got man of the match - I am immensely proud of their achievement.”
