Jordan Henderson received a less than welcoming reception from Brentford fans on his return to the Gtech Community Stadium as Chelsea were beaten 3-0.
It was a first appearance for his new club for the former Liverpool captain and a first game of any kind in almost three months since coming on as a substitute for England against Panama in June at the World Cup.
Bees fans let their opinions be known of their former midfielder on his first return to the club he left in order to join the Blues during the summer, booing virtually his every touch.
The 36-year-old turned in a strong first-half display before Chelsea collapsed after the break, conceding goals to Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and Fabio Carvalho to lose for the second time in three Premier League matches.
There was a frosty reception too for Henderson’s midfield partner Valentin Barco, who Brentford supporters had clearly not forgiven for his altercation with Jude Bellingham near the end of England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina.
Victory for the home side meant they remained unbeaten in the league after five games whilst Xabi Alonso was left searching for answers for his inconsistent Chelsea side.
