Chard 4, Penzance 2

CHARD faced Penzance on Saturday and were expecting a tough game after their recent hard-fought victory in Cornwall.

Chard should have dominated from the start with Penzance only fielding 10 players.

However, it was Penzance who scored first, which panicked Chard - Ben Larcombe soon saw a green card after a rash challenge in the D.

After this, Chard rallied and started to settle into the game and press the Penzance defence.

Mike Wakely - who scored twice in Chard's last game - brought the scores level with a powerful strike from the aftermath of a short corner.

With Larcombe back, Chard had their one-man advantage back which swiftly became a two-man advantage when a Penzance player was shown a yellow card.

Chard made the most of this advantage, scoring two further goals.

The first came from a good run and strike at the top of the D by Fraser Lewis for Harry Felgate to deflect in.

The next was scored by Adam Veitch, rounding two defenders and firing into the bottom corner.

In the second half, Chard continued to dominate and scored another goal courtesy of Wakely’s persistence in the D.

Felgate was then shown a green card for a poor challenge, though Chard coped well.

Penzance managed to pull a goal back two minutes from the finish but it was too little too late.

ECV Hornets B 2, Chard A 4

THIS game got off to a bang with three goals in the first nine minutes, with Trevor Goss grabbing a brace.

On five minutes he finished off a wonderful sequence of Chard passes, Jason Goddard providing the pinpoint cross and Goss firing home from an angle.

Hornets equalised three minutes later but, from the restart, Goss fired home from close range.

Sub Kyle Wheaton put Chard 3-1 up but Chard were not having it all their own way, Goddard increased the lead after the break to ensure a comfortable win, despite Hornets reducing the arrears late one.

Chard Ladies 4, Sidmouth Ladies 0

CHARD turned up at home looking to avenge an earlier defeat by Sidmouth.

The visitors looked very keen and started off the game strong breaking down the middle past Chard’s midfield and defence.

However, Chard goalie Charlie Carver-Bale was on the case, making one-on-one challenges keeping them at bay.

Chard soon figured out Sidmouth’s game play and two good goals resulted, both crossed in by Lois Butcher and then converted by Sue Stoker and Ros Clemmans.

In the second half, Sidmouth did their best to get back in the match but they were thwarted by great defensive work from Emma Cridland, Mischa Taylor and Tess Burrows.

Midfielders Sasha Taylor, Julie Saxby, Claire Gregory, Rachel Derham, Jess Fowler and Lois Butcher regained control.

And Chard went 3-0 up after another cross from Butcher was tapped in by Kerryn Mullins and Butcher finished the scoring firing home from an acute angle.

Big thanks to Vince Sharpe and Danny Graham for umpiring and for the continuing support from parents.
